Guy Debord (1931–1994) was a French Marxist theorist, filmmaker, and the central figure of the Situationist International (1957–1972). His La Société du spectacle (1967) developed the theory of the spectacle as the accumulated image of capital, while his urban practices — the dérive, détournement, psychogeography — proposed a revolutionary engagement with everyday urban life. His work is a cornerstone of critiques of spectacle and spectacular urbanism.
